Ramana’s film work has developed over the last 5 years into a cross-disciplinary practice of film, installation and sound artwork. Their current work explores concepts of the sensory world and experiences of queer and neurodiverse minds and bodies and the exploration of gender outside of the binary paradigm. Her most recent installation, The Hut, was part of the IMAGinE award winning group show, curated by Rilka Oakley, Sensorial. The exhibition is now preparing to tour four NSW regional galleries in 2025 and 2026.
Ramana’s Masters of Creative Industries research focused on using magical spaces in film for queer bodies to express their authenticity and non-binary performativity.
Ramana’s artistic vision for future work is to continue to create social change through films and artworks which explore perceptions and embodied experiences of gender, authentic becoming and the non-binary posthuman.
Ramana is a queer and autistic artist and filmmaker living on Dharug and Gundungurra land in the Blue Mountains, NSW. Ramana’s practice combines bricolage and an auto theoretical approach to film and installation, creating works which provoke and question. Their projects lean towards an other-worldly style and allow the viewer to contemplate new ways of looking at authenticity and gender.
Ramana has worked in multiple areas of the film industry for 15 years, ranging from costume designer, short film producer and director, feature film producer, line producer and production manager. Their recent film projects include neurodiversity consulting and directing for ABC Kids TV Series Fizzy and Suds.
